Siemenpuu Foundation organized an international film festival Siirretyt-Displaced on 6th  - 9th  of October 2011 in Kino Engel (Sofiankatu 4), Helsinki Finland.

The Siemenpuu film festival showed films on development-induced displacement of people and nations and on immigration. Now the films can be seen in internet. Part of the films are from its cooperation partners in Asia (Indonesia, India, Mekong region), Africa (Mali and West Africa), and Latin America. The films are made by partners themselves or talk about the issues the partners are working on, as long as the theme displacement is there. Also other films on theme are showed. The main idea is to show the displacement induced by development or environmental problems. The films are either documentaries or fiction films. The possible issues in the films are large scale dams, other large scale energy installations (including wind parks or solar panel installations), industrial estates, mining projects, plantations and other changes in the use of a forest or a land, including creating natural parks, that causes original inhabitants to leave their homes. Also displacement of the traditional way of life is an important theme. Additionally the theme includes the immigration due to climate change or other environmental problems.

Along the films there were discussions and some mini seminars on the films and the themes and festival club in Cafe Mascot (Toinen Linja  2) during the festival.

The main themes of the Displaced Film Festival were

  • Wounded earth - dams, plantations, mines, nuclear power here
  • Marginalized cultures - indigenous people and sustainable living here
  • Successful movements - activism and victories here
  • World order - economy, power structures, corporate hegemony here
  • Where to go? - stories about homelessness and immigration here
